I served as the Chair of the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee. This committee hears bills on a variety of issues, including elections & redistricting, gun safety, and other matters related to the state.
I also served on the Appropriations Committee. There are no interim committees in 2020.
Committee hearings are open to the public. I encourage you to come watch, testify, or listen online to hearings that interest or affect you.
During the 2019 Session, I served as a member of the Appropriations Committee and as the Chair of the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee.
During the 2019 Interim, I served on two interim committees:
- Opioid and Other Substance Use Disorders Study Committee
- Investor-owned Utility Review Interim Study Committee
The work done on these interim committees informs bills for the 2020 session. For example, House Bills 1065 and 1085 were developed to address the opioid and substance use disorder crisis that is currently afflicting Colorado.
2017 & 2018
I served on two committees of reference during the 2017 and 2018 legislative sessions.
On the Finance Committee, we discussed proposed legislation related to public finance and the state’s tax structure, and we oversee PERA, the Department of Revenue, the State Treasury, and the Governor’s Office of State Budgeting and Planning. Learn more here.
On the Health, Insurance, and Environment committee, we discussed proposed legislation related to state health programs, health insurance, and environmental health, and we oversee the Department of Public Health and Environment, the Health Benefit Exchange, the Division of Insurance, and the Division of Professions and Occupations related to health care. Learn more here.
In addition to my regular “committees of reference,” I also served on the Health Insurance Exchange Oversight Committee and the Tobacco Grant Program Review Committee. Additionally, I served as a co-chair of the Public Investment Caucus where we discuss a variety of issues related to tax policy and the way we invest tax revenue in priorities like public schools, roads and bridges, affordable housing, and more.
During the 2017 and 2018 interims, I served on the Opioid and Other Substance Use Disorders Interim Study Committee. We refered great package of bipartisan bills both summers, and passed those bills into law in the following sessions.
